Wilmslow v Heaton Mersey
The U12’s played against Wilmslow on a lovely Saturday morning. We had almost a full strength team. Having reviewed the statistics Wilmslow appeared to be similar too Mersey and so it was going to be a tight game. Both teams wanted to win to boost their confidence and winning statistics.Mitchell was recovering from an injury and volunteered to go in goals for the game, which meant that Max could play out.The first quarter was all one way traffic with Mersey taking the lead very quickly even playing with the sun in their eyes. David was quick to break from face and managed to dodge most of the Wilmslow players and shot on goal. The ball was fired into the back of the net. The celebration from David was well deserved. From face we managed to repeat what had just happened and again David was off and took aim and again the ball was in the back of the Wilmslow goal. Wilmslow were soon to reply and managed to put two past Mitchell. At the end of the first quarter it was 3-2 to Mersey. At half time the score was 5-4 to Mersey, both sides scoring 2 each. defence. It was anyone’s game at this point. We battled on as did Wilmslow and soon Michael and David were scoring with assists from David and each other. At the end of the 3rd quarter the score was 8-5. The game was still in the reach of Wilmslow who in the last quarter were catching Mersey up. Both sides battled. We were 3 up when Wilmslow attacked and scored which brought the game back into their reach. It was an easy goal with a good run from a Wilmslow player. With seconds to go the Wilmslow had one desperate bid to try and score and took a time out for a team talk. We started the game and with one last throw of the ball the whistle went and Mersey had won 10-7. Great result and a great game to watch. Both sides putting in 100% effort. | | 1st
