Heaton Mersey v Mellor

With 11 players Mersey ladies played Mellor on Halloween. The game started closely with both teams scoring one after another. Fiona Graham dominated the centre for Mersey and continued to win the draw directing the ball to waiting Mersey players. Mellor scored three goals from settled attack play beating Mersey with quick stick work and using the posts to their advantage. With seconds to go before the half time whistle, the score was 4-3 to Mersey when Fiona Graham won a free position. Her excellently placed, fast shot passed the Mellor keeper, giving Mersey a two goal lead to take into the second half.

Mersey came out hard from the half time break and the experience and ingenuity of Vicky Raymer inspired the Mersey attack to score three consecutive goals, answered by two from Mellor. Mersey took control of the game and scored two more goals but were unable to hold possession. Mellor took advantage of mistakes made and scored two more goals through fast breaks in the final five minutes of the game. However, it wasn't enough and Mersey won 10-7.
